Flying Heritage Museum

The Flying Heritage Collection had outgrown existing rented space and was seeking a more high profile venue to exhibit and maintain historic operating aircraft. After research of new-build and expansion-in-place options, the team selected the most sustainable and challenging alternative: adaptive renovation of an extraordinary but decaying industrial hangar never previously accessible to the public. The project focused on enhancing the existing character of the lofty, light-filled main hangar and improving the utilitarian side lean-to structures to house display, archives, maintenance facility, administrative offices and a new entrance lobby for the 53,000 sf museum.
